There is a phase said: If you want to know one’s culture , check out their food! This is because the way they prepare their food, what ingredient they use (usually those can be found in abundance in that place), how and when they eat it, all these are influenced by the geography, climate, religions, beliefs and history of the people in that place. For example, Lemang (glutinous rice cooked inside bamboo)is a must for Malay during the Hari Raya (Malay Lunar New Year); Zhong Zi (dumpling) for Chinese during Duan Wu Jie (Dragon Boat festival); Coconut and spices such as curry leave, lemon-grass,etc, are widely used in SE Asia cuisine due to the plentyness in this region.

As a good way to understand other’s culture is thru their food, SE Asia food.com will share with you the famous & yummy cuisines in Southeast Asia, includes Royal Thai cuisine, Malay cuisine, Chinese cuisine, India cuisine, Vietnamese cuisine, Filipino cuisine, Khmer cuisine and Baba Nyonya cuisine, and a little bit of SE Asian lifestyle, so that you can have a better idea about these countries and the people living here.

If you are Asian, especially from Southeast Asia, the cuisines introduced here will not be strange to you; for those Asian who are away from their country, hope the information in this blog will makes you feel closer to home. And for those who are outside of Asia, hope you will have a great exploration about SE Asia cuisine and have a better understanding about the people, culture in SEA.
