Bihun, some call Meehun,  Bee Hoon, or Bihon, is one type of rice noodle that widely consumed in SEA countries. Usually, bihun is cooked either in stir-fries method or in soupy form, like Singapore Fried Bihun, Qing Tang Meehun (bihun soup), etc, it is treated as single meal dish, which is a substantial meal for most of the Southeast Asean. One plate of fried bihun and a glass of tea could be a complete lunch or dinner for the people here.

Petai Fried Bihun is one of the delicious single dish meal among all the Nyonya cruisines you can find in Southeast Asia. Fried bihun, a very simple single dish meal is transformed into a hot, spicy, salty, fishy and mouth watering meal when chillies, dried shrimp and petai bean are added in.

To make this yummy Nyonya dish, first, we need the following ingredients:

300g Bihun 25g dried shrimp
8 prawn, cleaned and peeled cabbage, torn
8 dried chili 5 cloves garlic, chopped
100g petai bean Salt to taste
3 red shallot, chopped Oil

Then, steps to be taken:

  1. first, soak bihun, dried chillies and dried shrimp in water till soft.
  2. mince the soaked dried chillies and dried shrimp.

3) heat up oil in a pan, fry the chopped garlic and red shallot

4) add in the minced dried chillies and dried shrimp, fry till fragrant.

5) Put in the Petai bean and fry for 1 minute

6) add in prawn, fry until the prawn is fully cooked

7) take out the cooked prawns, set a side

8) add in soaked bihun and cabbage, stir fry till soft.

9) add salt to taste, put in the cooked prawns, served when it is hot.

Cooking tips 1: if you want cabbage to be crunchy, use knife to cut it into small pieces; if not, tear it instead.
