I have introduced Tom Yam in my previous post. Now, i would like share with you the Tom Yam Goong recipe, you will find that it is not difficult or tough to make this famous thai cuisine, in fact, it is pretty simple if compare with many other Southeast Asia cuisine. So, let’s begin!
What we need:Â
| 10 prawn, cleaned and peeled | 8 straw mushrooms, quartered |
| 2 lemongrass stalk, chopped | 5 slices of galangal or ginger |
| 8 bird eye chilies (depends how hot you want) | 5 kaffir lime leaves |
| 1 tomato, quartered | 2 red shallots, chopped |
| 8 coriander leaves | 5 tablespoon lime juice |
| 2 tablespoon sugar | 4 tablespoon fish sauce |
| 800 – 1000ml water | salt to taste |
What to do:

Heat up water, galangal and lemongrass stalk in a pot, when it is boiled, add in tomato, red shallots, bird eye chilies and let it cook for 5 minutes.

Add prawn, straw mushrooms, kaffir lime leaves, cook for another 3 minutes.

Add in sugar, fish sauce, salt and finally lime juice.

Garnished with coriander leaves, served with steamed rice.
Tips: do not put in kaffir lime leaves too early, because the special smell will gone if overcooked.
See, Thai famous cuisine is ready in less than 15 minutes, so simple yet delicious! You can replace prawn with chicken if you want to make Tom Yam Gai. If you use fish, then you have made Tom Yam Pla; or mixed seafood like prawn, squid, crab, then you have Tom Yam Talay for your dinner! If you like more veggie, you can add clauliflower too, which will give you the same delicious Tom Yam sensation!
